Wintercomfort launch COVID-19 appeal

17/4/2020

Wintercomfort's Covid-19 Emergency Appeal

As you may well be aware, because of the Covid-19 crisis, we have temporarily closed our day centre Overstream House based upon government guidelines. It was an exceptionally difficult decision to make as our centre provides essential services for the homeless.  Since the closure of Overstream House on 25th March, we have supported 292 individual people. Our current adapted service consists of:

- An email, text and telephone support service to rough sleepers and vulnerably housed individuals

- Telephone counselling service for those with substance misuse issues

- Emergency food vouchers for those who need them

- Essential translation services

- Offering an laundry service

- Preparing packs of dried food and essential toiletries for distribution

- Preparing hot fresh food for distribution

- Ensuring all rough sleepers are verified by the appropriate services to make sure no-one goes without an offer of temporary accommodation during COVID-19 pandemic

Wintercomfort is in good financial health overall, but the Covid-19 pandemic has left us with some serious financial challenges.  Our highly successful social enterprises Overstream Clean and Food for Food both offer employment/ training for our service users and they account for 15% or our annual income, and are unable to operate at the moment. Our corporate fundraising programmes have also been put on hold. Both these factors will mean a significant loss of income to Wintercomfort in 2020/21.
