Social Inclusion & Sports

Many people with long term experience of homelessness feel disconnected from main-stream society and suffer from low self-esteem. Our Social Inclusion Programme provides opportunities for people to discover new interests, broaden their aspirations, increase their self-confidence and to build positive relationships within the wider community.

“It always makes my day when I see someone’s face light up as they start to remember an almost forgotten enthusiasm for a hobby or vocation. It’s a big part of my job to catch that spark and work with the person to build on it and get them back to where they want to be in life.”

Leon, our Money, Debt & Social Inclusion Project Worker

Social Inclusion activities include:

  • A weekly reading group and service user-led book review
  • Museum visits
  • Cinema trips
  • Photography club
  • Excursions and day trips
  • Gardening

Regular physical activity is proven to build self-esteem and to enhance mental well-being. Wintercomfort supports service users to engage in exercise and to adopt healthy life-style choices including a focus on nutrition. We partner with other fitness organisations such as Cambridge United Community Trust and the YMCA to provide opportunities for service users to get active.

Exercise isn’t a way to achieve perfection. It’s about helping people to be the best they can be.
