Emma initially experienced rough sleeping, staying in her car without access to cooking or washing facilities, often in freezing conditions. She was struggling with addiction, and after her car was stolen she was left street homeless. As a result of poor mental health and historical trauma, Emma experienced psychosis and was frequently in crisis.
Emma came to Wintercomfort, where she was supported into temporary accommodation before moving into a permanent council flat. By engaging with mental health and addiction services, and developing practical skills such as budgeting, accessing grants, and cooking, Emma has been able to sustain her tenancy and continues to live there. With our support, she has furnished her flat and created a safe and comfortable home. Emma now volunteers with Wintercomfort, attends a women’s group, and actively supports her community
